The annual International Workers' Day was observed on Friday, 1st May, 2026 and celebrated across the globe. UNICOF was no exception as members from all our institutions and other unions came together to mark the occasion.
The national parade was held at Jackson Park, Koforidua. The President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, was the special guest for the occasion, with dignitaries from the Trades Union Congress Ghana, embassies, and traditional leaders of Koforidua also present.
Greater Accra & Tema Regions
In Accra, there was a procession from Obra Spot, Circle to the Black Star Square, where a speech was delivered by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Madam Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo. Awards were also presented to deserving members of the various unions. The Greater Accra and Tema Regions had a joint celebration at the World Trade Center.
Brong Ahafo Region
The celebration was held at the College of Health and Well-Being School Park, Kintampo, followed by refreshments at the Kintampo Waterfalls.
Central Region
The celebration was held at the UEW Campus Park, Ajumako.
Upper East Region
Members in the Upper East Region joined the national celebration with full participation and enthusiasm.
Upper West Region
The celebration was held at Jirapa Naayiri Park, followed by refreshments at Jirapa Dubai.
Western Region
Celebrations were held at the GSTS Park.
A Day of Unity Across Ghana
There was active participation of our members across all regions. Activities included indoor games such as Ludo, Oware, dancing competitions, thread and needle, and lime and spoon races, among others.
Feedback from our members was largely positive, particularly regarding the planning and organization of the programme and the overall success of the day's celebration.
Long live the Ghanaian worker. Long live UNICOF.
