Over two decades of organizing, empowering and fighting for workers across Ghana's industry, commerce and finance sectors.
The Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance Workers (UNICOF) was established in August 2003 and duly registered as a Trade Union Organization on 6th October, 2003.
We were affiliated to the Ghana Trades Union Congress as its 17th affiliate on 1st January, 2005 — a milestone that cemented our place in Ghana's collective labor movement.
Our main objective, in addition to our mission, is to provide cutting-edge trade union action and industrial relations support to workers within our jurisdiction, backed by a strong compliance culture aimed at providing a conducive environment for employment creation and security for sustainable economic development.
"To organize, educate and develop the capabilities of workers in our jurisdiction and beyond, towards improved productivity for the employer, and better working conditions and job security for our members."
To be one of Africa's most well-managed unions, capable of meeting the emerging needs and aspirations of its members — guided by openness to encourage ideas, debate, creativity and participation.
Companies involved in the manufacturing of goods across Ghana's industrial zones — from light manufacturing to large-scale production facilities.
Companies that provide financial or insurance services — banks, savings and loans, insurance firms, microfinance institutions and allied services.
Companies that provide goods and services to the general public — retail, wholesale, distribution, and commercial enterprises across all regions.
The Secretariat is the operational heart of UNICOF. Aside from the Delegates' Conference and the National Executive Council (NEC), the Secretariat runs the union on a day-to-day basis, housing the General Secretary, the Deputy Secretary and other members of staff.
The union operates under a five-year renewable strategic plan that guides all operations and activities. Our strategic objectives cover the following critical areas:
To organize and mobilize female members of the UNICOF fraternity, ensuring gender equity is embedded across all levels of the union's structure and decision-making.
To ensure continuous education and professional training for staff so they can provide quality service to members in an ever-changing world of work.
To create a conscious and educated membership capable of meeting new challenges on the job — from globalization to workplace rights and beyond.
To ensure the productive harnessing of human and financial resources for effective and efficient growth and development of the organization.
To establish and sustain internal unity and cohesion among all stakeholders — members, employers, government and international trade union bodies — for a stronger, more unified labor movement in Ghana.
Membership means your rights are protected and your voice is always heard.
