2025 MAY DAY – A Celebration with a special spark

Workers Day is celebrated globally on 1st day of May by numerous Labour Unions, and Ghana is no exception.

This year’s celebration focused on “Resetting Pay and Working Conditions in Ghana: The Role of Stakeholders.” The Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance (UNICOF) Workers of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), together with Organized Labour, marked yet another remarkable Workers’ Day to reaffirm their commitment for advocating improved working conditions and fair remuneration for all.

This significant day was observed across all regions in Ghana, featuring parades by workers from various industries. Reports from the regional parades indicated smooth and successful events. The National Parade which is the highlight of these nationwide celebrations was held at the Black Star Square in Accra, where His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama graced the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour.

UNICOF members in the Accra and Tema Regions demonstrated strong participation. Notably, members who exhibited outstanding performance were honoured with a chest freezer each and citations presented by the President.

After the National Parade, a post-event gathering for UNICOF members took place at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA). The event was heralded by enjoyable activities and competitive games, including lime and spoon, thread and needle, musical chairs, and a questions and answers session.

Demonstrating our commitment to well-being and camaraderie, we proudly launched two new clubs: The Walking Club and the Cycling Club,

This particular day will be remembered in our history. It was truly beautiful to witness the convergence of our General Secretaries, Chairmen, and Executive Committee Members (EXCOM), both past and present, to commemorate this special occasion.

In conclusion, this year’s May Day was an unforgettable one.

UNICOF, Freedom! UNICOF, Freedom!! UNICOF, Freedom forever!!!
